STEWARTSTOWN, NH -- Mr. Jerry “J.D.” E. Dobson, 68, of West Stewartstown, NH, passed away on Thursday afternoon, March 4, 2010, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, with his loving family by his side, from complications of a massive stroke two days earlier.
He was born on February 15, 1942, in Colebrook, NH, the son of James Dobson and Marguerite (Keyser) Dobson.
Jerry started school in Stewartstown Hollow and then went to the Cedar Brook School before attending Colebrook Academy. After school he worked for different construction companies, including for Bob Biron and the the Audley Construction Co. In the early 1960s, J.D. purchased his own truck and began a 20-plus year career as an tractor-trailer owner and operator. Following his trucking career, he began working for Grappone Auto Group selling big trucks, eventually moving into car sales as well. He and his wife even spent a winter in Las Vegas one year, where Jerry sold cars to the locals there. He will be always remembered locally as one of the best known car salesmen.
J.D. loved to watch the deer near his home and he enjoyed being in the woods hunting. He loved to make his rounds and visit with his friends in the local coffee shops every day. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, making furniture or trucks for his grandchildren, and he loved to help his wife cook. He also loved to barbecue on his grill. But his greatest joy was his family and time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry was a member of the Colebrook Jaycees years ago, serving one year as its president.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 49 years, Muriel (Fogg) Dobson, of Colebrook; his son, Randall and girlfriend, Sarah Hoffman, of Colebrook; a daughter, Kathy St. Onge, and husband, Michael, of Concord, NH; a sister, Brenda Paquette and husband Herman, of Colebrook; two brothers, Brandon Dobson and wife, Janice, of Pittsburg, NH, and Robert Dobson and wife Leis, of Bennett, Colo.; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 7, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Farnham Memorial United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, NH.
