Alice N. Carleton

COLEBROOK, NH – Mrs. Alice N. Carleton, 79, of Colebrook, NH, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2010, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, after a period of failing health. She was born on June 25, 1930, in Bow, NH, a daughter of the late Roy and Hilda (Duford) Wescomb. Prior to moving to the north country in early 1988, Alice was a teacher at the Heritage Christian School in Concord, NH. She continued teaching in Colebrook at the Community Baptist Church School. Alice was a woman of great faith and was very dedicated to her church. She was very involved in all activities at Colebrook’s Community Baptist Church, and taught Sunday school there for many years. Alice also served as the church secretary and treasurer for a period of time. She was an avid reader and loved to read the Bible. Alice enjoyed watching the birds at her feeder, and she loved being a grandmother to her precious grandchildren. She loved children and enjoyed her time around them. She also loved to cook. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Fowler and husband Gerard of Allenstown, NH, and Deborah Patenaude of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, John Carleton and wife, Christine, of Colebrook, NH; three sisters, Dorothy Perkins of Meredith, NH, Millie Perry of Allenstown, and Jean Southworth of Ohio; a brother, Ernest West of Virginia; a half-sister, Jane Wescomb of Pittsfield, NH; two half-brothers, Nelson and Norman Wescomb of NH; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a nephew and several nieces. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Carleton, in 1999. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the Community Baptist Church in Colebrook, NH. Friends and family are invited to visit at the church prior to the service from 2 -3 p.m. An interment service will follow at a later date at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
