Doris M. Carrier

COLEBROOK, NH -- Mrs. Doris Mary (Lavertue) Carrier, 82, of Colebrook, NH, was taken by the Lord on Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2010, at her home after a two-year battle with cancer. Doris was born on Brousseau Mountain in Averill, Vt., on July 1, 1927, the daughter of Claudia Brousseau Lavertue Noel and Laurent Lavertue. She graduated high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Island Pond, Vt. Following graduation, she came to Colebrook for employment working as a secretary where she met her future husband, Armand Carrier, and they were married on July 1, 1947. In their marriage of 59 years, they raised six children. In 1952, Doris and Armand purchased Colebrook Plumbing & Heating, working hard at having a successful business until 1977. Doris enjoyed her family very much, and will always be remembered for her cheerful attitude, encouraging words, hard work and wonderful meals. Doris was known for her tremendous generosity and spirit. She was a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, and as a Catholic Women’s Club member, she was most proud to organize, through the memorial fund, a collection for a ramp to the entrance of the church helping the disabled and elderly to attend Mass. She always found ways to give to those in need of clothing, food or furniture. Mrs. Carrier leaves behind six children, Dianne (Carrier) Micklus and husband, Lance, of Essex Junction, Vt., Laurent Carrier of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bernard Carrier of Colebrook, David Carrier and Melanie of Cushing, Me., Brendan Carrier and wife, Lyse Dagesse, of Williston, Vt., and Edward Carrier of Colebrook; eight grandchildren, Tony Micklus and wife Kimberly, of Milton, Vt., Jamie Carrier of Barnstead, NH, Chad Carrier and wife, Angela (Lepine) Carrier, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Marc Carrier of Wiscasset, Me., Kyle and Austin Carrier of Williston, Vt.; Christie (Carrier) Tamayo, and husband, Raymond, of Tampa, Fl., and Nicholas Carrier of Colebrook; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb, Christopher and Joshua Micklus, Chase Plante, Gabriel Carrier, Meredith Carrier, Kobe Carrier, Jordan Carrier, and Skyla Carrier; two sisters, Cora De La Bruere of Newport, Vt., and Jeannette McCoy of Tuscon, Ariz.; an aunt, Bella Brosseau of Massachusetts; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Armand in 2006; and by two sisters, Louisa Marshall and Marie Claudette Betterley. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Colebrook with The Rev. Craig Cheney and The Rev. Robert Levesque as co-celebrants. A “Celebration of Life” will immediately follow at the Colebrook Country Club, and all friends and family are invited to attend. A committal service at St. Brendan’s Cemetery will take place in the spring.
