Dorothy E. Sweeney

COLEBROOK, NH — Dorothy “Dot” E. Sweeney, 90, of Colebrook, and formerly of Pittsburg, passed away early on Saturday morning, March 1, 2014, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook after a long and brave battle with cancer, and with her daughter by her side. She was born in Lyndonville, Vt., on April 18, 1923, a daughter to the late Jerry and Melissa (Libby) Lunderville. In addition to raising her family, Dorothy worked at first for the North Stratford Plywood Mill, and later for six years she managed the Deer Mountain Campground in Pittsburg for the NH Division of Forestry. For 21 years she also worked at the Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen. She loved to be outdoors to hunt and fish, and she loved to be doing different crafts, knitting, or crocheting. Dot also loved to tend to her flower garden. She had a special fondness for traveling to Foxwoods to enjoy the games there, and she loved to travel to Newport, Vt., to visit with her friends and play Bingo. Dorothy leaves behind her daughter, Shirley Bunnell and husband Clifford of Pittsburg; one she considered as close as a son, Bill Brooks of Colebrook; a brother, Leonard Lunderville and wife Lisa of Manchester, NH; seven grandchildren, Alison Sackett and husband Don of Island Pond, Vt., David Goulette, Jr., of Colebrook, David Brooks of Colebrook, Sue Duranleau of Tucker, Ga., Donna Estes and husband, Ted, of Bloomfield, Vt., David Bunnell of West Stewartstown, and Peter Bunnell of Beecher Falls, Vt.; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Sweeney, in 1991; a daughter, Fran Goulette, three brothers, Robert, Alfred and Roland Lunderville; and two sisters, Priscilla Fisher and Marjorie Hubbard. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A graveside service will be held later in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
