Glenna A. Gray

CANAAN, VERMONT – Mrs. Glenna A. Gray, 66, of Canaan, Vermont, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2009, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Gray was born September 8, 1942, in West Stewartstown, NH, a daughter of the late Wilman and Carlene (Leonard) Allen. Mrs. Gray was a graduate of Canaan Memorial High School, Class of 1960. She married her husband of 48 years, David Gray, on December 17, 1960, and loved being a homemaker and a mother and grandmother. She also worked outside the home as a telephone operator in West Stewartstown until the system changed to dial. She also sold Avon products for more than 20 years, and she worked as a cook for the Canaan school system. Her many interests included camping, reading, dancing and cheering on the Red Sox. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR and her favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and she will be remembered for her famous glazed donuts, whoopee pies and her Christmas fudge. Mrs. Gray is survived by her loving husband, David Gray of Canaan, VT; her son, David Michael Gray and wife, Lynne, of Canaan, VT; three daughters, Vicki Lynn Gray and husband, James, of Spring Lake, NC, Pamela Jean Hartlen and husband, Eric, of Stewartstown, NH, and Kimberly Ann Sweatt and husband, Dennis, of Canaan, VT; her mother-in-law, Althea Gray of Canaan, VT; a brother, Wilman Allen and wife, Donna, of West Stewartstown, NH; two sisters, Susan Morrissey and husband, Walter “John”, of Florida, and Wilma Steinman and husband, William, of Claremont, NH; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Gray is preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Amanda Gray; and a brother, Glenn “Butch” Allen. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan, VT, with The Reverend Rick Boyden officiating.
