James B. King

ISLAND POND, VT -- Mr. James B.King, 75, of Island Pond, Vt., passed away on Saturday evening, July 23, 2011, at his daughter’s residence in North Stratford, NH, with his loving family by his side. Jim was born on April 17, 1936, in Island Pond, Vt., a son to the late James A. and Kathleen (Foster) King. He was a graduate of Brighton High School and served with honor in the U.S. Navy during the era of the Korean conflict. After his military service, Jim attended Lydon State College and earned his certification as a teacher. He taught for a few years in Canaan, Vt., and later in Jamaica, Vt., where he was also the school principal. After teaching, he worked for a time at the Groveton Paper Mill, and then for the Campbell mill in North Stratford, NH. Jim also worked as a carpenter and a painter which he enjoyed very much as he built the family home in Island Pond where he and his wife, Anita, lived for 25 years. He also enjoyed his daily 5-mile walk and doing all his own work inside and outside their home. Jim also loved to take care of his family and helping in any way that he could. “Our Jim” will be greatly missed by his entire family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Anita (Poulin) King of Island Pond, Vt.; his daughter, Lorraine (DeBanville) Harding of North Stratford, NH; his granddaughter Laurie Rathman and husband, Bill; his grandson, Chris Harding; great-grandchildren, Emily and Ben Rathman; three brothers, Dean A. King and wife Martha of Island Pond, Vt., Reid C. King of Zepher Hills, Fl., and Brian F. King and wife Mary of Barton, Vt.; three sisters, Lois K. Webster and husband Robert of Enosburg Falls, Vt., Gayle K. Currier and husband Vernon of Media, Penn., and Sherry K. Pinard of Littleton, NH; a brother-in-law, Bruno Canario of NY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Gloria K. Canario; a brother-in-law, Royce Pinard, and a son-in-law, Bradley Harding. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, from 1-3 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with The Rev. Dan Deveau officiating. Interment will be at the family lot in Island Pond, Vt.
