Janice I. Lyons

EAST COLEBROOK, NH—Mrs. Janice “Niecie” Lyons, 83, of East Colebrook, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 16, 2014, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, surrounded by her loving family, and after many months of declining health. She was born on Dec. 17, 1930, in West Stewartstown, a daughter to the late Edwin and Ida (Libby) Parker. She attended the local schools and was later married to Albion C. Lyons, Jr., on Dec. 29, 1951. Together, they worked hard on the family farm in East Colebrook while also raising their family. Niecie was well known for her cooking, and many looked forward to her Eastern Star baskets of donuts and bread. She was an avid snowmobiler and was a member of the “Hardy Girls” riding group. She loved to play Bingo, and she enjoyed being a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Eureka Chapter #2. She is survived by her three children, Linda Cross of Colebrook, Barbara Daley and husband, Joseph, of Lemington, Vt., and Daniel Lyons and wife Melony of Colebrook; a brother, Robert Parker and wife Elsie of Belleville, Ill.; three sisters, Phyllis Mosher of Lunenburg, Vt., Rachel Langlais of Goffstown, and Edwina Adair and husband Bill of Columbia, NH; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Daley III and wife Lucie of Lemington, Christine Gilbert and husband Randy, of New York, Todd Martel of Columbia, Troy Martel and partner Colette Marsh of Colebrook, and Jordan Hewson of Colebrook; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Albion, in 2013; infant twin daughters, June and Joan in 1967; two brothers, George and Harley Parker; a twin sister, Jeannette Kimball, and three other sisters, Lydia Haynes, Virginia Stanton, and Josephine Estabrook; and a son-in-law, Stevie Cross. Calling hours will be on Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral with an Eastern Star service will be held on Monday, July 21, at 1 p.m. at the Monadnock Congregational Church in Colebrook with The Rev. Rebecca Larson officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
