Lucinda E. Cross

COLEBROOK, NH -- Mrs. Lucinda “Lou” E. Cross, 91, of Colebrook, NH, passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2007, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 20, 1916, in Columbia, NH, a daughter of the late Taland Cross and Clara (Niles) Cross. Lucinda worked hard as a girl on the family farm and then from the age of 12 to 18 for the Jennie Russell farm in East Colebrook. After marrying Stephen B. Cross, they continued to farm and raise their family. She worked for a period of time for the Tillotson Rubber Company in Dixville. Mrs. Cross loved to cook and was renowned for her canned goods. She also loved to play Bingo and scratch tickets, and her flowers and gardening. She loved to travel to many different destinations, but truly enjoyed winters in her later years in Florida. Her greatest love was her large family, and she was proud to keep them together. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt, sister and cousin. Lucinda was a member of the Monadnock Congregational Church and the Colebrook Kiwanis Club. She leaves behind five sons, Richard S. Cross of Queechee, Vt., Wilber Cross of Colebrook, Wayne Cross, and wife Connie, of Monroe, NH, Thomas Cross of West Stewartstown, and Bernard Cross; two daughters, Beverly LeClair and husband, Bryant, of West Stewartstown, and Linda Estabrook and husband, Ronald, of Colebrook; two daughters-in-law, Linda Cross of Colebrook and Susan Cross of Gorham, NH; her companion for the past several years, Milton Adair of Colebrook; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen B. Cross, Sr., two sons, Stephen B. Cross, Jr. and Wendell Cross; a great-granddaughter, Heather Cross; three brothers, Roscoe Cross, Tally Cross and Orlando Cross; and a sister, Ada Leigh. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monadnock Congregational Church with The Reverend Rebecca Larson officiating. An interment service will be held in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
