Mary L. Chapple

COLUMBIA, NH— Mrs. Mary L. Chapple, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Monday afternoon, March 25, 2013, at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown after a long period of declining health and with her family by her side. She was born in Columbia on January 1, 1930, a daughter to the late Glenville and Elizabeth (Lesperance) Washburn. She attended the South Columbia School on Meriden Hill and was married to Francis Chapple in 1944. While raising her family, Mary was a dedicated homemaker. When her children reached school age, she began working at the Stratford Plywood Mill and she later worked in Colebrook at Manchester Manufacturing in the sewing department until her retirement. Mary was a renowned cook, and she loved to travel. She also enjoyed gardening and playing Bingo, and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Mary leaves behind five children, Walter Chapple, Sr. and his wife Patty Ann of Columbia, James Chapple and wife Gail of North Stratford, Nancy Chapple and Mary Simpson and husband William, and Conrad Chapple and wife Arlene all of Columbia; two brothers, Victor Washburn of Canaan, Vt. and Glen Washburn of Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Francis Chapple in 1996; a son, F. George Chapple; a daughter, Susan Jewell; a brother, Joseph Washburn; and two sisters, Jeanette Brown and Florence Cole. Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 28, 2013, from Noon - 3 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH, with a service following at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Paula Fletcher will officiate. Interment will occur later in the spring at the Fairview Cemetery in North Stratford.
