Anthony W. Paul

July 28, 1951 - November 21, 2015

BEECHER FALLS – Anthony William Paul, 64, died peacefully at his home early on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, on July 28, 1951, he was the second of four sons to Anthony Paul and Barbara Ann Boucher. His father was a life-long naval Chief Warrant Officer and Anthony attended schools up and down the east coast. He graduated second in his class from Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, RI, and attended Providence College where he received his bachelor’s degree in education with Special Education being his first love and mathematics a minor. He also went on to receive his master’s degree in Special Education in 1981. He graduated in 1973 and married the love of his life, Laura Marie Rodrigues on November 9, 1974. His first teaching job was at Diman Regional Vocational High School in Fall River, Mass., where he taught from 1976 - 85. He moved to the north country in 1985 for a job in Canaan, as K-12 Special Ed/Resource Room teacher. He went on to teach at many north country schools, including Camp E-Toh-Anee, Lancaster, Pittsburg, Woodstock, Vt., Lamoille Union High School, and Brighton Elementary. His loved teaching middle school students and was born to teach. He introduced the north country to Key Club. He had been very involved in Key Club in Massachusetts and began the club in Canaan, and was very proud to see it grow to what it is today. He had many loves, the first always being teaching. He also enjoyed music, so much so that while teaching in Canaan, he very often transported high school students to concerts in Portland, Me. He also enjoyed tennis, hiking, and just being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Laura; a daughter, Catherine Marie Paul from Williston, Vt.; a son, Dr. Evan Christopher Paul from Portland, Ore.; 3 brothers, Wilfred Paul, Robert Paul and Ernest Paul; 2 sisters-in-law, Maureen Paul and Rhonda Paul; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be no public calling hours or service. Anthony wished to be cremated and his ashes returned to Rhode Island. There will be a gathering at his home in Beecher Falls on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1-4 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Paul may be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at DHMC, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756, or online at http://cancer.dartmouth.edu/dv/donate.html.
