Daisy Bruno

October 12, 1919 - April 28, 2015

NORTH STRATFORD, NH — Mrs. Daisy I. Bruno, 95, passed away at the Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH, early on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2015, after a long period of failing health. She was born in Carrara, Italy, on Oct. 12, 1919, a daughter to the late Corrado and Lea (Costa) Ascoli. Daisy emigrated to the U.S. with her parents in 1920 when the ship fare for all of them was $9. She was married to Victor Bruno in 1945 after his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corps. Victor’s work in the wood products industry had the family living in New York and then Rutland, Vt., before they settled in North Stratford, NH in 1951. Daisy worked as a payroll clerk and bookkeeper for the different companies her husband managed, the longest term being for the Plywood Products, Inc. in North Stratford. Daisy enjoyed traveling and was able to make several trips to Hawaii, as well as to Brazil, Peru, and much of the United States. She enjoyed summer vacations to Hampton Beach and Cape Cod with her family. Her civic participation was also important to her, and at one time Daisy was secretary for the Stratford PTA, and president of the Catholic Women’s Club at Sacred Heart Church. Daisy loved to have friends visit every day, and they would have coffee, chat, and have a wonderful time. She leaves behind a sister, Olga Bruno of West Rutland, Vt.; a close nephew, Thomas Ascoli of Weybridge, Vt.; two close nieces, Carol Randall and Noreen Myhre, both of Rutland, Vt.; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Victor Bruno in 1999; a brother, Thomas Ascoli; and two sisters, Helen Clark and Irma Ascoli as a child. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 1, 2015, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sat, May 2, at 11 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church in North Stratford, with The Rev. Dan Deveau as celebrant. An interment & committal will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in West Rutland, Vt. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Bruno may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, Box C, North Stratford, NH 03590. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsnewman.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook, NH.
