Dorothy Victoria Rancourt

August 29, 1924 - January 21, 2021

WEST STEWARTSTOWN – Dorothy (“Dot”) Rancourt, 96, of West Stewartstown, and holder of the Boston Post Cane since August of 2019, passed away peacefully at the Coös County Nursing Hospital on Thursday morning, Jan. 21, 2021. Her family and caring nursing staff were by her side. She was born on Aug. 29, 1924, in North Stratford. Dot grew up in North Stratford, raised by the late Evangelist and Olivine (Bergeron) Carrier. She was one of six siblings. Dot did many things throughout her long life and touched so many along the way. She was a hairdresser for a few years, but then retired from that and became endlessly devoted to raising her family. She was lucky enough to find the love of her life, her soulmate, Rene Rancourt. They married in 1948 and went on to raise a beautiful family of six together. Family was everything to Dot. She was a devout Catholic, and a woman of extreme grace. Even facing the unimaginable losses of two children, her beloved Vicky and Johnny, she went on to live her life with a generous heart and a genuine love for people. She was a woman of dignity, a warm and kind soul who made everyone who walked through her door feel welcome. Among many things, Dot was an amazing cook who always felt that good food brought people together, and for her family, it certainly did! Some of the fondest memories of her will always be the large family gatherings she hosted year after year during the holidays. Her grandchildren, to this day, have vivid memories of her famous popcorn balls at Halloween, spaghetti for breakfast, Cheerios drenched in butter and salt for a snack, and ALWAYS, she would have lipstick for dessert! She was one of a kind and simply adored. Her legacy will live on in her family members’ hearts forever. Dot leaves behind a family that cherished her; her children and their spouses: Lyanne and Ernest Leigh, Robert and Debby Rancourt, Louis and Bella Rancourt, Laurent and Christiane Rancourt. Her grandchildren: Donna Riendeau, Paula Chapple, Timothy Leigh, Brenda Cabana, Christi Rancourt, Karen Loux, Andrée Seeley, Jesse Rancourt, Joshua Rancourt, Melanie Solari, and Alex Rancourt. She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Dot was predeceased by her beloved children, Vicky and Johnny Rancourt, her husband and soulmate, Rene Rancourt, her brother, Armand Carrier, and her four sisters, Annette Dumont, Irene Stevens, Mornar Saunders and Lena Connary. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a private Mass of Christian Burial for immediate family will be held to honor Dot’s life on Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Albert’s Catholic Church. A public graveside service will be held in the spring of 2021 in St. Albert’s Cemetery, of which notice will be given. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsnewman.com. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook, NH.
