Edward J. Daley

July 30, 1937 - March 4, 2018

LEMINGTON, VT — Edward J. Daley, 80, of Lemington, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 4, 2018, at his home after a period of declining health. He was born on Whitefield on July 30, 1937, the son of the late Joseph G. and Yvonne (Goulet) Daley, Sr. He resided in Lemington for 40 years in the home he and his brothers helped to build on Sims Hill. Edward graduated from Colebrook Academy in 1956. A veteran of the US Army, he was drafted in July, 1960, and was honorably discharged in June, 1966, having served as a member of the military police. He was well known for being a longtime logger, working alongside his brothers. He also owned and operated a Mack truck and participated in the construction of I-91. He also traveled to Littleton for many years to work at Littleton Lumber. One of his favorite jobs that he looked forward to every spring was working in the family’s sugar orchard producing maple syrup. He was a Lister for many years for the Town of Lemington, as well as a Vermont Justice of the Peace. He was a member of the North American Martyrs Parish and the American Legion. Anyone driving by his home could wave and see him working in his bountiful garden, where he harvested tomatoes and other vegetables to share with his family and friends. He also enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren, mowing his lawn, feeding the hummingbirds, and being the Lemington FBI. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne (Fauteux) Daley, of Lemington; 3 daughters, Linda Lamont of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Vicky Smith of Lemington, Vt., and Debra and Scott DeBlois of Columbia; 5 grandchildren, Samantha Smith and Tyler Barrows, Nicholas and Katie Smith, and Lucas, Courtney, and Danielle DeBlois; and 3 great-grandchildren TJ, Athena, and Skyler. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph and Barbara Daley; 3 sisters Ann (Daley) and Tom Balon, Alice (Daley) Noyes, and Myra (Daley) Ellingwood; and sisters-in-law Louise Daley, Sally and Harry Biron Sr., Pauline and William Gould; and brothers-in-law Norman and Lisette Fauteux, Danny and Collette Fauteux, Roger Fauteux, and Raymond Fauteux; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Edward is predeceased by his best friend and brother, Paul Daley; a son-in-law Brian Lamont; 2 brothers-in-law, John S. Noyes and Reginald E. Ellingwood; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Fauteux. Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the next morning at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Colebrook, with The Rev. Craig Cheney as celebrant. Interment with military honors will take place later in the spring at St. Brendan’s Cemetery, of which notice will be given. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Daley may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsnewman.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook, NH.
