Evelyn G. King

NORTH STRATFORD– Evelyn G. King, 96, passed away at the home of her granddaughter on Monday morning, July 9, 2018, after a recent period of failing health. She was born in Columbia on June 9, 1922, a daughter to the late George Smith and Bernice Bolton. For many years, Evelyn worked as a housekeeper at the Genesis Healthcare in Lancaster. She also cared for children in people’s homes, and worked in the shoe factory in Lancaster. Her most important job, however, was a mother to her own children. She enjoyed country-western music, a good mudslide cocktail, watching soap operas on TV, and visiting her family and going for rides. She was a wonderful cook, and a lover of cats, as she was terrified of mice. Evelyn was a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary #5243 in North Stratford and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit, Post 47 in Canaan. She is survived by her six children, Ronald King (Suzanne) of Canaan, Vt., Randall King, Sr., of North Stratford, Dennis King (Dolores) of Moultonborough, NH, Stephen King of North Stratford, Lynda Gaudette (John) of Colebrook, and Mary Ellen Hamel (Ronald) of Allenstown, NH; a sister, Doris Rowe of Norway, Me.; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Richard L. King in 1944, a brother, Kenneth Stoddard, a grandson, Ronald Hamel, Jr., and a great-grandson, Travis Hand. Calling hour will be on Friday morning, July 13, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A brief funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, and interment will follow at St. Brendan’s Catholic Cemetery.
