Richard C. Pinckney

November 15, 1930 - June 8, 2019

COLEBROOK – Richard C. Pinckney, 88, of Colebrook, passed away on Saturday morning, June 8, 2019, at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown, after a period of declining health and with his family by his side. He was born in Colebrook on Nov. 15, 1930, a son to the late Elwin R. and Florence (Woodard) Pinckney. Dick attended schools in Colebrook and later served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1952-53. After his military service, and during his younger years, Dick worked mostly in the woods, and he later worked for Lynn Parkhurst’s saw mill, at the Stratford veneer mill, for seven years as a trackman on the Colebrook section of the Maine Central Railroad, and later he worked for 35 years for Colebrook Oil as a truck driver and plant manager. As an oil truck driver, he loved his routes and the people of the north country, and cherished the memories of his friends along his routes and watching their families grow. Dick loved to hunt and fish, and he could always be found tending his garden in the warmer months or working on his wood pile. He served as a fire warden for the town of Columbia for several years. He was a talented woodworker, making chairs, tables, and picnic benches after his retirement. He loved to go dancing and play cards, especially “Pitch”, and will be remembered by all his family and friends as a wonderful family man, and always with a smile for everyone. Dick leaves behind his wife, Georgena (Washburn) Pinckney of Colebrook; his son, Gary Pinckney (Elaine) of Williston, Vt.; two daughters, Christine Kirk (Skip) of Colebrook, and Terry Kimball (Rob) of Canaan; his step-children, Michael Moren of W. Stewartstown, Jonathan Moren of Topsham, Me., David Moren of Columbia, Ellen Moren of W. Stewartstown, and Julie Houle of Canaan; a brother, Harold Pinckney of Lisbon, NH; five sisters, Margaret Crawford of W. Stewartstown, Nancy Gadbois of Ormond Beach, Fla., Elaine Whitcomb of Melrose, Mass., Ann Ramsey of Menifee, Calif., and Eileen Reinhard of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his dear friend of many years, Roland Hart of Colebrook. He is preceded in death by the step-mother who raised him, Bernice Pinckney; a sister, Katherine Pearson; and a brother, Stanley Pinckney; and his first wife and mother of his children, MaryAnn (Thompson) Pinckney. There are no public calling hours. A graveside interment service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 2 p.m. in the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dick may be made to the CCNH Residents’ Activity Fund, P.O. Box 10, W. Stewartstown, NH 03597. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsnewman.com. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook, NH.
