COLEBROOK – Sheila A. Wick, 73, of Colebrook, NH, passed away late on Monday evening, Sept. 28, 2015, at the Country Village Healthcare Center in Lancaster, NH, after a long period of declining health. She was born in Nashua, NH, on Nov. 19, 1941, the only daughter to the late Edward J. and Jacqueline T. (Bertrand) Durno. She graduated from Pepperell High School in 1959 then went on to work at Godin’s Five & Dime store before serving in the U.S. Navy Women’s Reserve (WAVES) in 1961, stationed at Bainbridge, Maryland. She gave birth to a daughter, Cheri, at Fort Devens, Mass., and a son, John, at Fort Benning, Ga. before settling in Pepperell, Mass., were she bore two more daughters, Michelle and Nicole. In the early 1970s Sheila relocated to Manorville, Long Island, NY, where she worked for the Town of Brookhaven for 17 years, the town’s first female custodian. She received many ‘Employee of the Month’ awards from the Town of Brookhaven before she retired. She spent her retirement years in the north country with her dogs, Mackie, McGreghor, Angus, and Molly. Sheila became a well-known local figure, always attending local events. She enjoyed swimming at the Rec Center, she loved to see the fall foliage, visiting with local people, and dancing at the American Legion in Canaan. Most of all, she truly enjoyed “gallooping” around the back roads of NH and Vermont with her family and friends. Sheila was a faithful member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Colebrook. She mentioned regularly that the people of Colebrook were very good to her, and she was glad to have good neighbors and friends. Sheila will be remembered for her laughter, her ability to become friends with strangers, her charity to those in need, and her gift of letter writing. She is survived by a son, John (Doris) Streeter of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Cheri (Kelly) Hubbs of Norfolk, Va., Michelle Seebode of Norfolk, Va., and Nicole Streeter of Mastic, NY; four grandchildren, Joleen Streeter Lazarowicz of Indianapolis, Ind., Samantha Seebode of Richmond, Va., Krysti and Jonathan Streeter, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Peter (Alice) Durno of Colebrook, and Phillip (Gail) Durno of Pepperell, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
