Albert E. Maurais

LEMINGTON, VT— Mr. Albert E. Maurais, 76, of Lemington, Vt., died peacefully on Sunday morning, March 11, 2012, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH, after a 20-year struggle with lymphatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Renaud) Maurais with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Albert was born on May 24, 1935, in Berlin, NH, the youngest of ten children to the late Edouard and Odilla (Jacques) Maurais. He was raised in Berlin and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954. He was married to his love, Lucille Renaud, on June 28, 1958. In 1963, Albert and Lucille moved their young family to Colebrook where he began a career working in plumbing and heating, retiring in 1998. Al loved the outdoors and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, gardening, and berry picking. Family, friends and the local restaurants were the lucky recipients of produce from his gardens. Albert will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and remarkable outdoorsman. Albert is survived by his wife, Lucille Maurais of Lemington; his five children, Richard Maurais and wife Romaine of Winston-Salem, NC, Robert and Roland Maurais of Newport, Vt., Paul Maurais and friend Laurie of Gorham, NH, and Rachel Maurais and husband Stephen Friedman of San Diego, Calif.; his grandchildren, Andrea Friedman, Lydia Friedman, Elise Friedman, Mia Maurais and Spencer Maurais; his sisters, Marie Dupuis, Jeanne Nadeau, Maguerite Coulombe and husband Lucien, Gilberte Roy, Florence Roy, Therese Godin and husband Romeo; as well as many nieces and nephews. Al is also leaves behind a very special friend and constant companion, his dog Little Bear. He is predeceased by his brother Alphonse Maurais and his sisters Irene Langlais and Blandine Maurais. There are no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Colebrook, NH. The Rev. Craig Cheney will officiate. A committal service will be held in the spring at St. Brendan’s Cemetery.
