Christiane C. Lanctot

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2) CANAAN – Christiane C. Lanctot, 74, of Canaan, Vt., passed peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, after several years of enduring a courageous battle against dementia. Christiane was born in Coaticook, Québec, Canada, on April 17, 1949, to Edgar and Yolande (Souliere) Arsenault. She was well known in the community as the Postmaster in Beecher Falls, Vt., a position she held from 1988 until her retirement in 2014. She was a lover of many things, and doted on shows about home décor and cooking. Especially fond of music, Christiane was an avid singer and a self-taught pianist and artist. As an accomplished student of life, she took enjoyment in learning and contributing to her community through her attendance at many churches and local events throughout her life. Christiane was a “prayer master” praying fervently for not only her family, but friends and those in her community every day. Christiane leaves behind her beloved husband, John Lanctot, who was her knight in shining armor and guardian angel for over 27 years; her siblings Micheline Riendeau, Robert Arsenault, Aime Arsenault, and Claude Arsenault; her four children and their spouses, Brian R. Cross (Jean) of West Stewartstown, Bradley E. Cross (Stephanie) of Whitefield, Randy J. Cross (Nicole) of Raymond, Me., and Kelly M. Laperle (Gerry) of Colebrook; and a step-daughter April (Brian) Smith of Colebrook. She was blessed to have 10 grandchildren, Randall B Cross, Ashlie K. Lynch, Nathan B. Cross, Nakea M. Cross, Adrienne C. Laperle, Taryn L. Laperle, Danielle Cross, Monica Cross, and Kristen Osgood, 3 Step-grandchildren, Bryce and Brody Smith and Elizabeth A. Cross; 7 great-grandchildren, Rylie F. Lynch, Noah J. Lynch, Carson Cross, Jaxx Cross, Romeo Grey, and Bradley James Alan Cross; and 3 step great-grandchildren, Madison, Savannah and Kolten Hartlen. She was predeceased by her parents and a granddaughter, Alyssa Gwen Cross, in 2007, and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Cross in 2020. Christiane’s wish was that her family remain strong, enjoying each season of life, always recognizing that love and forgiveness are gifts she freely gave. There are no public calling hours. A celebration of life pot-luck BBQ will be held on Saturday, June 24th , from 1-4 p.m. at the Canaan Community Church, and the family welcomes you to come bring a story and a side dish to share as we celebrate a life well lived. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Christiane will be for the establishment of a scholastic stipend earmarked in her name to Canaan Memorial High School Seniors who are pursuing nursing or the medical field with an interest in hospice and end-of-life care.
