Donald L. Wheeler

STEWARTSTOWN, NH -- Mr. Donald L. Wheeler, 84, of Stewartstown, NH, passed away on Saturday morning, January 1, 2011, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Clarksville, NH, on December 3, 1926, a son to the late William and Clara (Mullen) Wheeler. He was married to Roena Hook in 1945. Donald’s career was always working with wood as a millworker at the Brown Co. plywood mill in North Stratford, and as a logger and Christmas tree farmer. He was known as a hard worker. He was a champion harmonica player, winning many contests and trophies over the years, and he was also known for his bountiful vegetable garden every summer. Donald also loved large gatherings and family events. In his younger years, he was also an avid motorcyclist and he cherished his old Indian Chief bike. Donald is survived by his five children, Rosalie Pagano of Clarksville, NH, Robert Wheeler of Stewartstown, NH, John Wheeler of Weare, NH, Betty Hughes of Canaan, Vt., and Linda Grittner of Beecher Falls, Vt.; two sisters, Marilyn Burns of North Stratford, NH, and Ruth Pineo of Canaan; a brother, Wilbur Wheeler of Brownsville, NJ; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Roena in 1968; a son, Roy Wheeler; and his siblings, Stanley Wheeler, Albert Wheeler, Glen Wheeler, William “Buster” Wheeler, and an infant twin sister, Dorothy. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 5-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A committal service and interment will follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery in the spring.
