Egide "Yogi" R. Carrier

CANAAN, VT – Mr. Egide “Yogi” R. Carrier, 68, of Canaan, Vt., passed away late Thursday afternoon, February 10, 2011, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 23, 1942, in St. Jean, Québec, a son to the late Cyrille and Irena (Thivierge) Carrier. He was educated in Canada and moved to the United States in 1962. Yogi’s working life was as a self-employed farmer and logger. He also owned and operated The Spa Restaurant in West Stewartstown with his wife and daughter Nancy from 1987-1992. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who loved anything to do with nature. His hunting trips took him to many different places in the U.S. In his younger days, Yogi also loved to snowmobile, and he always contributed some of his wild game to the Canaan Lions Club annual fundraisers. He cherished his family and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Yogi was also known for his annual cookouts at his home with many, many family and friends. He was a fair and honest man, who will be missed dearly by his beloved family and friends. He is survived his wife of 47 years, Denise (Laverdiere) Carrier of Canaan, Vt.; two daughters, Christine Carrier of Hopkinton, Mass., and Sylvie Downey and husband Christopher of Bermuda; four grandchildren, Jillian Katz, Alex Downey, Addysen Downey and Hailey Downey; four brothers; six sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Yogi is preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Carrier, in 1999; one brother and two sisters. Memorial calling hours will be Friday, February 18, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Albert’s Church in West Stewartstown with The Rev. Craig Cheney as celebrant. A private committal service will take place in the spring at St. Albert’s Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Yogi’s memory may be made to the Nancy C. Carrier and Egide R.
