Felix Palomba

PITTSBURG – Felix Palomba, 95, of Pittsburg, died on Friday evening, Aug. 21, 2026, at the J. Byrnes’ Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, N.H. Born on Feb. 24, 1931, in Orange, N.J., a son to the late Cosmo and Frances (DeSimone) Palomba, Dad was raised in northern New Jersey, and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning a bachelor degree in Science. He worked as a chemist for a time for both Anheuser-Busch and for Pfizer Pharmaceutical. From 1952-56, he served with honor in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman aboard the USS Bennington CV20 aircraft carrier during the Korean conflict. This was one of the highlights of Dad’s life. He spoke of it frequently with great pride and enthusiasm, making it hard to tire of his colorful stories. Dad attended several Bennington reunions over the years and always returned with a smile and a new story, or three. Following his military service, he continued his career as a chemist briefly before he, his wife, Carolyn, and their two boys moved to Claremont, N.H., in 1970, where he took on a position as science teacher at Stevens High School. During this time Dad also functioned as the assistant football coach. He later worked as a department head at Claremont General Hospital while mom also worked simultaneously in the ER. Dad tutored students part-time in the local area as well. All-in-all, Dad was very civic-minded and was well liked no matter where he was to be found. As a passionate hunter and fisherman, Dad had the good fortune to visit Pittsburg in the early 60s. He fell in love with the area instantly. Having relocated his young family to the north country shortly thereafter, Felix worked for a time as the science teacher at Pittsburg School in grades 7-12 from 1968-70. He also volunteered his time and talent doing income tax work for members of AARP for a period of time. He and his wife were members of the Pittsburg Historical Society for a duration as well. Their faith was paramount to them, and they were devout parishioners of St. Albert’s Catholic Church for many, many years. Dad had a love and enthusiasm for baseball his entire life. He never tired telling stories of seeing his heroes and legends play in person at those iconic ballparks where DiMaggio, Williams, Mantle, Ruth, Greenberg, Foxx and, of course, Lou Gehrig made baseball history. It is with sorrowful irony that Dad would eventually be diagnosed with, and ultimately succumb to, ALS himself. One can’t help but think, if even for a moment, that Dad would somehow, and in some way, feel honored to have shared a similar fate with one of baseball’s greatest legends. Dad will forever be remembered for his cheerful, delightful, and enthusiastic response to the standard greeting question, “How are you doing?”... with his animated “Sensational!” or “Outstanding!” reply. A sincere sentiment at that! But if we were fortunate enough to sum the man, Felix Palomba, up in a single, simple word, that word would most certainly have to be… humble. You will be profoundly missed, our dear, beloved Dad. Felix is survived by his two sons, Gerard Palomba of Pittsburg, and Bruce Palomba of Jackson, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Edie Palomba of Barnegat, N.J.; three grandchildren: Savannah House, Catherine Tippins and her husband, Christopher, and Michael Palomba and his wife, Meghan; and two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Daisy House. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carolyn (Gajewski) Palomba in 2024, and two brothers, Cosmo Palomba, Jr., and Vincent Palomba. Calling hours will be on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the next morning, Friday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in W. Stewartstown.
