Floyd A. Bennett, Sr.

NORTH STRATFORD, NH -- Mr. Floyd A. Bennett, Sr., 56, of North Stratford, NH, passed away early on Friday, October 3, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH, with his loving family by his side. Floyd was born on May 29, 1952, in West Stewartstown, NH, a son of Aaron Bennett, Sr., and the late Dolena (Reynolds) Bennett. Mr. Bennett was educated in Colebrook and spent his working years as a local auto mechanic. His hobbies included playing horseshoes and four-wheeling, and he loved to go boating with his dear friend, Billy Lesperance. Floyd was always tinkering with something and his skills as a mechanic were well known. For many years, he drove his race car at the Riverside Speedway in Groveton on race nights. He loved to spend time with his friends, and he will be remembered by all who knew him as a loving father and grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Floyd leaves behind his two sons, Floyd A. Bennett, Jr. and wife Wendy of Groveton, NH, and Clayton Bennett and wife Shannon, of Manchester, NH; his daughter, Kelly Irwin and husband Jared of Maidstone, Vt.; his father, Aaron Bennett, Sr. of North Stratford, NH; two brothers, Aaron Bennett, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, of Groveton, and Mike Bennett and Lois Post of Bloomfield, Vt.; a sister, Darlene Eastman and husband, Ronald of Lewiston, Me.; five grandchildren, Katherine, John, William, Cameron and Isabella; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dolena Bennett; an infant son, Christopher, in 1973; and a baby sister, Lorena Bennett. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church on Route 3 in Columbia with Pastor Gary Clark officiating. A committal service will immediately follow at the family lot in the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
