Francese "Fran" A. Brooks

COLEBROOK, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Mrs. Francese “Fran” A. (Sweeney) Brooks, 66, of Titus Hill Road, Colebrook, New Hampshire, passed away Tuesday evening, February 19, 2008, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Brooks was born January 30, 1942, in West Stewartstown, NH, a daughter of the late Julius and Dorothy (Lunderville) Sweeney. Mrs. Brooks graduated from Canaan Memorial High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably until her discharge in 1962. She returned home and married David Goulette, Sr. and cared for her home and her two children. She also worked for Tillotson Rubber Company, Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen and in 1995, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant degree and worked for the Coos County Nursing Hospital. In 2001, her first husband passed away and in 2004, she married William “Bill” Brooks and the two of them enjoyed traveling across the United States. Her other interests included serving as Past President of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners for a number of years, serving as a member of the Northland American Legion, Post #47 in Canaan, VT, while she also enjoying making quilts and spending time on the computer. Mrs. Brooks is survived by her loving husband, William “Bill” Brooks of Colebrook; her son, David Goulette, Jr. and companion, Melanie York, of Wilton, ME; her daughter, Allison Sackett and husband, Don, of Island Pond, VT; her mother, Dorothy Sweeney of Pittsburg, NH; her sister, Shirley Bunnell and husband, Clifford, of Pittsburg, NH; a step-son, David Brooks of Colebrook; a step-daughter, Susan Duranleau and husband, Michael, of Loganville, GA; and nine grandchildren, Loren Goulette, Lacey Goulette, Lucus Goulette, Jessi Sackett, Craig Whitney, Samantha Duranleau, Nicholas Duranleau, Caleb Goulette and Jacob Goulette; Mrs. Brooks is preceded in death by her father; her first husband, David Goulette, Sr.; and a step-son, Roger Brooks. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008 from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Monadnock Congregational Church with The Reverend Rebecca Larson officiating. An interment service will be held in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
