Gilbert F. Marchesseault

CANAAN – Gilbert France Marchesseault, 77, of Canaan, Vt., passed away with family by his side on Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. He was born in West Stewartstown on Sept. 3, 1944, a son to the late Lorrany and Marie-Rose (Couture) Marchesseault. Gilbert was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Colebrook, and a member of the Club Aramice in Coaticook, Qué. During his retirement he was a volunteer for many years for Our Lady of Grace Shrine in Columbia doing maintenance for the property. Gilbert’s favorite past-time when he was young was riding horses and playing with his dogs. He also loved picking raspberries, apples, and other fruits. He loved doing chores with his 1959 Ford tractor, and he also enjoyed riding his snowmobile with his friends during the winter months. He spent most of his life on the family Christmas tree farm, and later enjoyed his retirement at the Green Hill Apartments in Canaan. A huge “thank you” is due to his sister, Raymonde, caring for him during his later years. Also special thanks are given to his nieces Judith, Lorraine, and nurse Julie, who were close to him. Special thanks are also given to the residents of the Green Hill Apartments all of whom he considered his good friends, and who helped him to enjoy his retirement. With his good nature and his way of telling stories and jokes with laughter, he was loved by everyone. A comment from a friend is very telling: “Gilbert, you were a ray of sunshine with your smile and your sweet voice.” He is survived by his brothers, sisters, and in-laws : Raymonde Marchesseault (Fernand Grégoire), Emilie Marchesseault (Raymond Lavigne), Marc Marchesseault (Suzanne Proteau), Louis Marchesseault (Francine Riendeau), Gerard Marchesseault (Lucie St-Pierrre), Ida Marchesseault (Serge Riendeau), Lea Marchesseault (Michel Bissonnette), and Eva Marchesseault (late Renald Belleville); as well as countless, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved so much. He is predeceased by a brother, Leo, and Leo’s wife, Patricia Nadeau. There are no calling hours scheduled at this time. A celebration of Gilbert’s life and a graveside interment service at St. Albert’s Cemetery will be held at a later date when the U.S.-Canadian border re-opens to unrestricted crossing, and of which notice will be given.
