Kathleen B. Walling

BLOOMFIELD — Kathleen B. Walling, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomfield on Thursday evening, April 11, 2019, after a short period of declining health. She was born on Jan. 30, 1919, a daughter to the late Heamon and Bessie (Blodgett) Nason, the eldest of 7 children. She started work cleaning houses at 10 years old, and she graduated from Stratford High School in 1937. Kathleen married Winslow Walling on Oct 30, 1937, and together they raised 4 children: Emogene, Stewart, Bernard and Kerry. She worked at the Stratford Plywood Mill, the Stratford school and Lambert’s Store and other places, all while also holding the position of Bloomfield’s tax collector and town clerk for 35 years. She also raised funds for the American Cancer Society. She played piano and violin, and organized talent local shows. She enjoyed country music, playing cards, board games and word games on her Kindle. As Bloomfield’s most senior citizen, she was the current holder of the town’s Boston Post Cane. She will be missed by all her family and her many friends who knew and loved her. In addition to her four children, Kathleen is survived by her sister, Rilma Julio of Brockton, Mass., and a brother Edwin Nason and his wife Alberta of West Barnet, Vt.; grandchildren,Tracy and Lance Walling, Rita Fournier, Laura Walling, and Mallory Walling; as well as great-grandchildren, Aysa Walling, Moriah Watson, Ashley Evans, Patrick and Kyle Walling, and great-great-grandchildren, Nason, Ainsley and Lennon Watson. She is predeceased by her husband, Winslow; sisters, Mildred Nickerson and Edna Morrison, and her brothers, Burton and Bernard Nason. At Kathleen’s specific request, there are no public calling hours or services scheduled. A private graveside interment will occur in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
