Lena M. Connary

STRATFORD – Lena M. Connary, 98, of Stratford, passed away early on Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2015, at the Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH, with her family by her side and after a long period of declining health. She was born in Bloomfield, Vt., on June 16, 1917, a daughter to the late Evangelist and Olivine (Bergeron) Carrier. Lena was a 1936 graduate of Stratford High School. Her professional career was as a local hairdresser, much of that time working for her father who was a barber, as well. Lena loved to cook and go out to eat, too, and she loved to go for rides with her friends and family. She was an accomplished self-taught musician and could play very well on the organ and all by ear. She loved to be in her garden in the warmer months. Lena was a devoted communicant at Sacred Heart Church in North Stratford, prayed the rosary daily, and watched Mass on television every day. Mrs. Connary had been the holder of Stratford's "Boston Post Cane" for several years as the town's eldest resident. She will be dearly missed, and remembered by her friends and family for one of her favorite sayings, “God Bless you All.” She leaves behind three sons, Harlan Connary and wife Patricia of Stratford, Ronald Connary and wife Rose of Stratford, and Ervin Connary and wife Elaine of Groveton; three daughters, Jayne Leigh of Groveton, Susan Connary of Stratford, and Mary Lepine and husband Gerry of Groveton; a sister, Dorothy Rancourt of West Stewartstown; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, Edward E. Connary in 2003; a brother, Armand Carrier; three sisters, Annette Dumont, Irene Stevens, and Monar Saunders; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. There are no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in North Stratford with The Rev. Daniel Devau as celebrant. A graveside committal service will take place at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in North Stratford.
