Mildred P. Colby

BLOOMFIELD, VT – Mrs. Mildred “Millie” P. Colby, 78, of Bloomfield, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2014, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook after a period of failing health, and with her beloved family by her side. She was born in Colebrook, NH, on May 25, 1935, a daughter to the late Clyde and Catherine (Riley) Shallow. Millie was a 1953 graduate of Colebrook Academy, and moved to Manchester, NH, after school for a period of time. She was married to Freeman “Sonny” Colby, Jr., on April 21, 1956. Millie worked at several jobs over the years, but always will be remembered by her family as a dedicated homemaker. She worked at Manchester Manufacturing, and later for the lunch program in the Colebrook schools, and for 25 years in the North Stratford school lunch program, being well-known for her cooking skills. She retired from Routhier & Sons in 2011. Millie enjoyed flowers and gardening, she loved to go camping, and she loved to spend time with her family. She is survived by her 3 children, David Colby and wife Julie of Colebrook, Daniel Colby and wife Cheryl of Saco, Me., and Debbie Lynch and husband Jim of West Stewartstown; seven grandchildren, Melissa Boire and husband Lance of Westbrook, Me., Jacie Colby of Colebrook, Hannah Rexford and husband Jeremy of Colebrook, Nathan Colby of Biddeford, Me., Justin Colby of Hartford, Conn., Jessica Maurais and husband Jason of Laconia, NH, and Travis Lynch of West Stewartstown; four great-grandchildren, Emma McKeage, Lyvia Rexford, Rylie Lynch and Kayla Colby; three sisters-in-law, Aline Shallow of North Stratford, Nancy Shallow of Colebrook, and Elaine Russell of Whitefield, NH; a brother-in-law, Steve Colby of Colebrook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Sonny in 1974, and three brothers, Philip, David, and Richard Shallow. At Millie’s specific request, there will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Brendan’s Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Colby may be made to the Two Rivers Ride for Cancer, c/o R.
