Noella J. Routhier

CANAAN — Noëlla J. Routhier Thibeault of Canaan, passed away on her 84th birthday, Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook after a long battle with cancer and with her family by her side. She was born in St. Isidore, Quebec, on Dec. 23, 1933, the youngest of 19 children to the late Polycarpe and Octavie (Mercier) Nadeau. She was raised in Sawyerville. For several years while still a teenager, Noëlla worked as a waitress until she married. She then moved to Bury, Que., for a time and later Sherbrooke, where she and her husband owned and operated a dry-cleaning business. They later moved to Canaan and purchased the Northland Restaurant and ran that successfully until 1977, while also building and operating Maurice’s Motel. Noëlla loved to snowmobile and she loved to be in her flower gardens in the summer. Although she did winter in Florida for 15 years, she returned for 3 weeks every winter to go snowmobiling. She was very creative, could fix just about anything and wasted nothing, and enjoyed sewing and making clothes. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful cook, and she enjoyed traveling north to Canada to visit her brothers and sisters and their families. She leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Adrien Thibeault of Canaan; three children, Richard (Nathalie) Routhier of Lakeworth, Fla., Francine Latendresse of Canaan, and Suzanne (Mark) Deslauriers of Nokesville, Va.; a brother, Lucien Nadeau of Lennoxville, Que.; and a sister, Rita Rouleau of Boynton Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, from 2-4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be the next morning, Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Stewartstown with The Rev. Craig Cheney as celebrant. Interment will be in the spring at St. Brendan’s Cemetery in Colebrook. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Routhier may be made to the UCVH, 181 Corliss Lane, Colebrook, NH 03576.
