Rita M. Ladd

WEST STEWARTSTOWN, NH — Rita M. Ladd, 88, of West Stewartstown, passed away at her home with her loving family by her side on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, after a long period of declining health. She was born in Beecher Falls, Vt., on May 22, 1930, a daughter to the late Adrien and Marie Anna (Paquette) Maurais. She attended school in East Hereford, Que., until the family moved to the farm in Canaan in 1945. Rita worked for Ethan Allen, the North Stratford Plywood Mill and Goldie’s Rest Home. She retired after working for 40 years at Solomon’s Store. On May 26, 1951, she married Abner Ladd. They were married for 50 years and together they had four sons. She was a lifelong communicant at St. Albert’s Catholic Church and a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. Rita enjoyed French-Canadian music and could play the piano, accordion, and harmonica. She enjoyed playing cards and participating in the Senior Meals. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, Denis (Christy) of Jericho, Vt, Donald (Terry Lynn) of South Portland, Me., and Michael (Susan) of Canaan, Vt. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dennis (Jennifer), James (Vittoria), Tyler (Kae), Bethany and Derek; three great-granddaughters, Sophia, Maya and Kamrin; two brothers, Raymond (Aleda) Maurais, and Albert (Rolande) Maurais, and two sisters, Yvette Beloin and Annette Boynton. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Jessica Brooks, and Iola (Josh) Boire, and her brother-in-law, Gerald (Jean) Ladd; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita is predeceased by her husband Abner N. Ladd, and her son Richard “Dickie” Ladd. She is also predeceased by her brothers Rodolphe and Victor, and a sister, Edith Marquis. There are no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert's Catholic Church in W. Stewartstown. Interment at St. Albert's Cemetery will immediately follow.
