Sylvia L. Pease

CANAAN, VT— Mrs. Sylvia L. Pease, 73, of Canaan, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2013, at the Littleton Regional Hospital in Littleton, NH, with her family by her side. She was born in Exeter, NH, on Dec. 24, 1939, a daughter to the late Rupert F. and Hattie (McIntyre) Seavey. When Sylvia was a young girl, the family moved to the Canaan and Beecher Falls area, and she attended the local schools, graduating from Canaan Memorial High School in 1957. After school, she left the area to pursue her interests. In 1970, Sylvia returned to the area, and just by chance met a charming submarine sailor who was home on leave. It was a match, and she wed Russell Pease in 1973. After working various jobs over the years, and raising two daughters, Sylvia was finally able to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a barber. She returned to school and graduated from Hanson’s Barber School in Lewiston, Me., as a Master Barber and later opened her own business known as “Just a Barber Shop.” She retired after more than 20 years, and was then able to enjoy traveling, counted cross stitch, painting and advanced crossword puzzles. Sylvia also enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and she loved to feed her family a good meal. She loved to be and will always be remembered as the “family boss” with a sharp tongue and a firm hug. Sylvia leaves behind her husband of almost 40 years, Russell H. Pease of Canaan; two daughters, Heather Anne Colby and her husband Calvin of Lunenburg, Vt., and Heidi Ann Marquis and her partner Stewart Phillips of Canaan; a brother, Robert Rice and his wife Sue of Canaan; a sister-in-law, Diane Rice of Canaan; her son-in-law, Jules Marquis of Canaan; four grandchildren, Charles James Burt and Eric Ryan Berry of Lunenburg, and Albert Joseph Marquis and Katie Dee Marquis of Canaan; and a great-granddaughter, Daizie Rae Berry. She is predeceased by her mother and step-father, Hattie and Charles Rice; and a brother, James A. Rice. There are no public calling hours. A private service will be held at a later date.
