Thelma E. Howe

COLEBROOK – Thelma E. Howe, 77, of Colebrook, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026. She was born on May 17, 1949, in Coaticook, Québec, a daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Luce) Stone. She attended school in Canada, and later met a U.S. Army soldier named Tony Howe a year before he enlisted while motorcycling with a friend. They got married while Tony was on leave from the military in 1969 and later moved to Colebrook in 1971 after Tony’s military service in Germany was ended. Thelma was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family for the next 57 years, and helped care for and raise their three children and all nine of their grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her. She loved to visit her mother and remaining family in Canada every week, and she loved to go shopping with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed doing puzzles of all sorts under 500 pieces, and especially word finds. She also loved to play cards, specifically Hearts and Gin Rummy. Thelma leaves behind her loving husband, Tony, of Colebrook; her mother, Margaret Stone of Richmond, Qué.; her son, Wayne (Anna) Howe of West Stewartstown; a daughter, Pamela (Jason) Smith of Colebrook; her daughter-in-law, Christa Howe-Lambert of Colebrook; a brother, Jim (Gerry) Stone of Richmond, Qué.; a sister, Jean (Mario) Costanzo of Montreal, Qué.; nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters on the way. She is predeceased by her father, Ernest Stone (2008), and her son, David E. E. Howe (2013). Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A graveside service and interment will follow on Friday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. in the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the David E.E.
